Medical applications, medical images, and biological data require special processing resources, while guaranteeing privacy and security. High performance computing becomes crucial in dealing with huge sensitive data for special medical activities, such as diagnosis, therapy, e-health, tele-surgery, as well as specific domains, such as phylogenetics, genomics and proteomics, or studyoing virii evolution and molecular epidemiology. The goal of the Workshop on High Performance Computing Applied to Medical Data and Bioinformatics, HPC-Bio 2008, is to bring together researchers from the academia and practitioners from the industry in order to address high performance computing issues in medical applications and bioinformatics. The workshop will provide a forum where researchers shall be able to present recent research results and new research problems and directions related to them. The workshop seeks contributions presenting novel research in all aspects of high performance computing applied to medicine and bioinformatics. TOPICS OF SPECIAL INTEREST (but not limited to): Grids for High Performance Medical Applications INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE AUTHORS The HPCBio 2008 Proceedings will be published by IEEE Computer Society Conference Publishing Services, posted on IEEE Xplore Digital Library.
