Dr. Dirk Labudde
After studying Theoretical Physics and Medicine, Professor Labudde researched and taught at different universities before being appointed as a professor for Bioinformatics and Forensics at the University of Applied Science in Mittweida in 2009. Overall, he co-authored 8 research books and more than 135 publications in the field of Bioinformatics and Forensics. In particular, he is interested in structure-based systems biology, next generation applications for the analysis of biological traces, knowledge-based systems for supporting digital forensics, and resilience engineering. Moreover, results from his research are of great interest to the industry, the government and several businesses. For example, in 2009, he won the Science4Life and Venture Cup with Nanometis an innovative Biotech-Startup. Professor Labudde was invited as a keynote speaker to several international conferences and is a consultant to the police and to public prosecutors. He also holds lectures at the German Police University and the Technical University Bergakademie Freiberg. For his excellent teaching work, Professor Labudde received several awards, including the Helmut Lindner Prize and the Saxon Teaching Prize. Furthermore, he founded the first bachelor course in General and Digital Forensics in Germany in 2014 and since the beginning of this year, he is part of the Fraunhofer Institute for Security in Information Technology (SIT).
