Dr. Gaetano Bellanca
Dr. Gaetano Bellanca received the Master Degree in Electronic Engineering and the Ph.D. degree in Electronics and Computer Science from the University of Bologna, Italy, in 1991 and 1995, respectively. Since 1999, he has been with the Department of Engineering at the University of Ferrara, Italy. He is currently Associate Professor and Lecturer of Electromagnetic Propagation and Antennas. He’s also Lecturer of the Electromagnetic Compatibility Module in the Course “Wired and Wireless Interconnections and Anti collision Systems” of the two year Master Degree in Advanced Automotive Electronic Engineering of the Motorvehicle University of the Emilia-Romagna Region.
Gaetano Bellanca is member of the Board of Directors of the MIST ER Smart Innovation Laboratory (Laboratory for the Micro and Sub-Micro Technologies of the Emilia Romagna Region), a Public Private Partnership offering itself as industrial research partner for companies interested in invest in R&D.
From 1994 to 1995, he was Contract Professor of the Electromagnetic Field Course for the Electronic Engineering Diploma at the II Engineering Faculty (Cesena) of the University of Bologna. From 1992 to 1993, he was Professor of Electronics at the Technical Institute “O. Belluzzi” in Bologna.
The main interests of Gaetano Bellanca are in the simulation and characterization of integrated optical devices and optical antennas. Since 2015 he’s working in the framework of the PRIN 2015 WiNOT (Wireless on-chip Nanoantenna for Optical interconnect Technology) Project, a National Italian Project involving the Politecnico di Bari, the University of Bologna and the University of Ferrara, aiming at investigating the possibility to use optical antennas for on chip optical interconnection. From 2011 to 2015, he was responsible of the Research Unit of Ferrara in the framework of the SAPPHIRE Project and worked on nonlinear modeling of optical devices. In the same period, he worked in the framework of the PHOTONICA (Photonic Interconnect Technology for Chip Multiprocessing Architectures) Project, an Italian Project funded by the Italian Minister of the University and the Research, aimed at exploring the use of optical networks for on-chip interconnections. He also worked from 2011 to 2013 in the framework of the European Project COPERNICUS, a Project aimed at developing Photonic Crystal Integrated Circuits for Compact OTDM / WDM Optical Receivers.
In 2015, he was visiting professor at the FOTON Laboratory in Lannion, France. He was also visiting professor at the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University of Nottingham, UK, in 2013 and at the “Laboratoire de Physique de la Matière Condensée”, University of Nice Sophia Antipolis, France, in 2008 and 1996.
Gaetano Bellanca is author or co author of more than 120 papers published in high impact international journals and international conference proceedings and is reviewer for many journals.
He’s member of the Italian Society of Electromagnetics (SIEm).
