Kheong Chan
Dr. Chan Kheong Sann received his bachelor's degree from Northwestern University in 1996, and PhD from the National University of Singapore in 2000. He currently works at the Data Storage Institute (DSI) in Singapore as the leader of the coding and signal processing (CSP) group for magnetic recording channels. The team at DSI works closely with industry and academia on relevant problems to help develop the technologies to push the technology and areal density every upwards. His group also has collaborations with industry-steered consortia such as INSIC (Information storage industrical consortium) and ASTC (advanced storage technology consortium) and his work on modeling and channel development for two-dimensional magnetic recording (TDMR) earned him INSIC's technical achievement award in 2009. He was also the principal investigator in a S$1m government funded NRF proposal to investigate the feasibility of implementing a novel detection/decoding algorithm in FPGA hardware.
