Dr. Mauro Dell’Orco
Mauro Dell’Orco currently teaches “Management & Operations of Transportation Systems” at the Polytechnic University of Bari. The course deepens first the knowledge of various Operations techniques for Road, Rail, Maritime and Air Transport; then, it deals with the optimization of Management of these Transportation Systems.
He gave invited lectures at the University of Poznan (Poland), at the Istanbul Technical University and at the Belgrade University. Recently, he has been invited speaker at the plenary session of the LOGIC Congress in Belgrade.
Mauro Dell’Orco promoted and coordinated international cooperative research with the:
- Helsinki University of Technology, Finland
- University of Delaware, USA
- Istanbul Technical University, Turkey
- Poznan University of Technology, Poland
He serves as a reviewer for several international scientific Journals.
He has been Scientific Responsible for:
- the National Program of Actions 2000-2006, for the Action “Safety Management in the Railways Traffic: Innovative Methodologies and Technologies for Monitoring and Diagnosis of Rail Tracks and Rolling Stocks”;
- the Regional Program of Actions 2006 – 2007 “Trainstop”
- the Strategic Project “Research and Development of a Management System for Maintenance of Railways Assets".
The main topics of his research are:
- the modeling of the user's choice behavior through the user's uncertainty representation systems, such as the Possibility Theory and the Evidence (Dempster-Shafer) Theory
- the traffic assignment to a network, with the application of metaheuristics such as the Swarm Intelligence for the resolution of combinatorial explosion of possible paths
- the modeling, through the Fuzzy Logic, of pedestrian evacuation in an emergency from closed environments, such as metro stations, road and rail tunnels, or large structures such as sports stadiums
- the mesoscopic simulation of dynamic loading of links of a traffic network.
