T1. Performance Evaluation in Wireless Networks and Technologies from 2.5 G, 3G, LTE to 4G and Beyond T2. Web Services for Mapping DETAILS: T1. Performance Evaluation in Wireless Networks and Technologies from 2.5 G, 3G, LTE to 4G and Beyond "Wireless Communications" is getting more and more importance in every single aspect in our daily life. Mobile Communication technologies are evolving at an incredible speed, impacting even the global economy. This tutorial will deal with the evolution during the last few years and subsequently the future trends will be presented. The following topics will be discussed:
In every topic, the corresponding standards and performance will be presented and analyzed. Introduction As geographic/map data sources expand and the demand to have access to them increases, the Web Mapping Services have been grown rapidly during the last years. The Web services specifications for mapping come from the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) and have been implemented by commercial and open source map server software systems. These services, although they operate in a similar fashion with general web services, they are completely different from the services a web developer may be familiar with. The scope of this tutorial is to present the web services for sharing and accessing geographic/map data on the Web. The tutorial is more practical than theoretical. After the presentation of the Web Services for Mapping essentials, the OGC specifications for web services are described. Then, the tutorial is focused on the development faces and the functionality provided by the web services of a regional Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) for the Prefecture of Heraklion in Crete, implemented by the instructor. Content Part I: Theory (duration 1h 20 min)
Part II: Practice (duration 1h 30 min)
